Game rules

Catapult targets

Catapults can damage only these buildings. Their resistance depends on the tribe of the village and on the Stonemason's Lodge, the damage on the tribe of the attacker and on the Blacksmith.

Can be damaged by catapults.   Cannot be damaged by catapults.

How many levels a building loses

Catapults deal damage points to the target building. Bringing it down from level L to level L−1 takes L points; leftover points carry over to the next level, while points that are not enough for another level are lost. Destroying a level L building completely takes L×(L+1)/2 points: for example 55 points at level 10 and 210 points at level 20.

How damage is calculated

Damage = Catapults × Siege power × Blacksmith × Outcome ÷ (Building resistance × Stonemason's Lodge × Architects × 5)

  • Catapults: all those that arrive, including those that die in battle, because losses are already in the Outcome. Catapults caught by traps do not fire. With two targets they are split in half between them.
  • Siege power of your tribe and Building resistance of the defender's tribe: the values are in the table below.
  • Blacksmith: each catapult upgrade level increases damage by 2,05%; at level 20 damage is ×1,50.
  • Outcome of the battle, between 0 and 1. With R = your attack ÷ defense: if you win Outcome = 1 − ½ × R−k, if you lose Outcome = ½ × Rk, with k = 1,50 (a little less in very large battles). On equal strength it is 0.5: the clearer the victory, the closer it gets to 1; the clearer the defeat, the closer it drops to 0.
  • Defender's Stonemason's Lodge: each level makes buildings 10% sturdier; at level 20 damage is divided by 3.
  • Architects: if the defender holds the Architects artifact, their buildings resist more; without it the value is 1.
  • 5 is a fixed server factor. In a siege damage is doubled; in Wonder villages it is halved.
  • Morale: if you have more inhabitants than the defender, damage drops. It is divided by (your inhabitants ÷ theirs)0.3, by 3 at most, and then multiplied by their inhabitants ÷ yours: with twice the inhabitants you deal about 41% of the damage. It does not apply when aiming at the Wonder of the World.
  • Rams lower the wall with the same calculation, using their own upgrade level; for rams morale only applies the final multiplication. Nothing in the damage is random: only the target is random when you do not choose it.
TribeRam and catapult powerBuilding resistance to catapults
Romans ×4 ×1,70
Teutons ×6 ×1
Celts ×2 ×1,50
Greeks ×2 ×1,70
Carthaginians ×3 ×1,70
Egyptians ×2 ×1,50
Mongols ×4 ×1
Atlanteans ×2 ×8
Persians ×2 ×1
Scythi ×6 ×1

Example

Attacker: Teutons, with 100 catapults (power ×6) and Blacksmith at level 0. Defender: Romans (resistance ×1,70), with no Stonemason's Lodge and the same population. The attack is twice the defense, so Outcome = 0,82. Damage = 58,10 points: a level 20 building drops to level 17.
